Certificates on Secure
Storage Device (USB Token)
We recommend
and provide secure storage devices to our customers
for storing their Digital Certificates. Smart cards,
or UBS tokens, when combined with digital certificates,
become an efficient, flexible, and portable solution
for authenticating identities, encrypting data, and
validating transactions. Complementing our digital
certificate services these USB keys provide secure
storage for private keys and digital certificates
and thus provide the most portable, cost-effective
mechanism to enable two-factor authentication, protect
privacy and ensure non-repudiation. We recommend that
user must use Storage Devices like these to store and protect
their Digital Certificates.
Why are Digital Certificates
stored on USB tokens?
For security reasons, your Digital Certificate should
be stored on a hardware device, such as a Cryptographic
USB Token. These tokens store your Digital Certificate
securely and ensure that nobody else has access to your
private key except you. These tokens are also portable,
so when you have completed your signing operations, you
can remove and store your token in a secure place.
One of the most important properties of the cryptographic
USB token is that your Private Key stored on the token, can
never be copied out of the token. As a result, during a digital
signing operation, the Digital Signature is created directly
on the token. Security for your Private Key is further enhanced
through the mandatory use of a password to access the contents
of the cryptographic USB token.
